VERONICA WIJAYA

Veronica Frans Wijaya is a professional photographer and multimedia producer, with a real passion for photojournalism and the development of stories. Often working in the humanitarian field, an area she feels strongly about, 

 

Having been assigned a number of projects with United Nations Agencies (UN-Habitat/UNDP) and other International Organisations (The World Bank, ADB, HIVOS, GIZ), Veronica has travelled widely. Countries in which she has undertaken assignments include Senegal, Niger, Myanmar, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Indonesia and the Maldives.  She has captured images for stories related to a number of sectors, in particular shelter, education, livelihoods and WASH, and in a range of development, rehabilitation, relief and emergency contexts.

 

Veronica’s output has included single images, photo essays, multimedia storytelling (short film) and production of various communication material, usually with a strong focus on people and communities, and describing the issues faced by the population, how their lives and livelihoods have been affected by conflict or natural disasters, and how they rebuild their lives with the support of the programme being implemented. Emphasis is put on relaying the point of view of people, allowing them to express themselves, and capturing the cultural and cross-cutting issues that affect their lives. 

 

Veronica's photographic work has been published in various United Nations and international and regional publications, including in the photo book ‘Anchoring Homes’ (UN Habitat 2007) and the Spanish magazine Contraluz. She has exhibited at a number of international/national exhibitions, such as the National Geographic Exhibition in Indonesia and the Noorderlicht International Photo Festival in the Netherlands. 

 

Living in Bosnia for one year, Veronica has collaborated and produced an independent short documentary project. The film has been selected and screened in 6 film festivals across Europe in 2016.
